Welcome to the Worcestershire Community Work Boat
Wanderer - the Worcestershire Community Work Boat lives on canals that run through Worcestershire. It is being used by local canal volunteering groups along the Worcester and Birmingham and the Droitwich canals for a variety of activities, many of which are focused on improving the canal environment for boaters, walkers, cyclists and fishermen. It allows waterway volunteers better access to different spots along the canal, as well as opening up new waterborne volunteering activities.
The Wanderer was restored by the Canal and River Trust with funding from players of the People’s Postcode Lottery. The Canal and River Trust own the boat and undertake any necessary maintenance, it is managed by the community groups who use the boat and is crewed by volunteers.
The boat’s name, the Wanderer, was officially revealed at a ceremony at Worcester Commandery on July 1 2016, after local school children were invited to submit suggestions as part of a competition.
